This year seems to be flying by. I cannot believe it is already May and Mother's day is just around the corner. Each year I celebrate all my favorite mom's with a backyard brunch full of delicious foods and their favorite drinks. That includes my mom, my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law, and my best friend. I try to mix it up each year with something a little different. This year I went for a garden theme full of flowers and bright colors. Plus, I added a personal touch by creating a handprint napkin they can use and/or keep as a gift and a beautiful signature card from Hallmark.
To create a special napkin for my mom and mother-in-law, I grabbed my boys to have them help me with this fun craft. It is a messy project, so we grabbed all our supplies and headed outside to get to work. It was a little tricky to get handprints for my sister-in-law and friend, so without them knowing I grabbed their kiddos handprints and created a napkin for them as well.
Supplies you need:
- Fabric paint in your choice of colors
- Paint brush
- Paint tray
- Fabric napkins. I used flour sacks. Cheese cloths work as well
- Wet wipes (to help clean up messy hands)
How to make:
1. Using fabric paint and paintbrush, paint the palm of the hand. Make sure it is painted on thick and heavy to get a good handprint.
2. Very carefully place palm, painted-side down, onto fabric napkin and press down firmly.
3. Gently lift palm up leaving behind handprint on the napkin.
4. Let dry completely, at least 24 hours, before use.
5. Wrap with faux flowers to create a special place setting for moms this Mother's Day.
I created our backyard brunch around this beautiful arrangement of pink peonies. I immediately knew I wanted that as my centerpiece. I placed them in a faux concete vase that fit perfectly and planned everything else to coordinate with it. Bright pink flowers wrapped around the handprint napkins, bright plates, water goblets, floral tablecloth, and food galore completed the set-up.
While shopping for the brunch, I headed over to the Hallmark card section to get the perfect card for my mom and mother-in-law. I searched for the new signature collection and found these amazing cards that fit in perfectly with my brunch theme. I love the thick cardstock and quality of these cards plus, the colors are perfect.
I wanted to make sure everything was perfect to celebrate each one of them. I place a beautiful signature Hallmark card with a handprint napkin at each of their place settings so when they sat down, they would have a special treat waiting for them.
I served just about everything I knew they would love. Blueberry muffins, doughnuts, croissants, a variety of bagles, cream cheese coffee cake, fruit, orange juice, milk, coffee, and of course homemade jelly and local honey.
Everyone loved everything and said it was the best surprise ever! Especially when they pulled out their napkins and saw the hand prints. No one wanted to use it in fear they would ruin it!! LOL
