When my biggest little boy was turning 4, he was obsessed with trains. He loved everything about them, as most young boys do. So, when it came time to planning his fourth birthday party, I knew that it had to revolve around his favorite toy, trains!
As the setting for our train party, I wanted something different then the party in our living room setting. Our house was small and could not accommodate many people comfortably. When I found out that just a short drive down the road, the McKinney Avenue Trolley offered birthday party packages, I jumped at the chance!!! How fun.
Even though it was technically a trolley and not a train, it was pretty close. Plus, these trolleys are vintage and restored and were absolutely beautiful. During the 2 hour party, the trolley drove through parts of Uptown Dallas while we celebrated, offering great views of the city.
Party guests parked and waited at a specially marked Streetcar Stop Station at party time and waited
for the party train to arrive. Guests were urged to arrive right on time or may miss the party train.
When all the party guests were on board, they were greeted by the beautifully restored vintage streetcar trolleys with wood beams and floors along with our own private street car conductor.
The main party table, set up with a long table top propped up by old vintage trolley chairs underneath. The table was decorated with a red tablecloth and a red white polka dot runner made from wrapping paper. I wanted to make sure nothing would be ruined since the train would be in motion for the entire 2 hours. Red, blue, and yellow accent colors made the table pop! The backdrop was made possible by the beautiful city.
In the center of the table and old train case that I decorated with his initial, the letter B, along with ribbon and a wooden dowel to hold the case open. The train case worked in place of a cake stand and held the custom made cupcakes that fit our theme perfectly. Tayste Cakes created these handmade train themed cupcakes that were full of details and a huge hit.
For food, we served fruit and veggie trays, bags of pretzels, and prepackaged sandwiches, housed in train boxes, with individual milk box for the kids. Adults were given their own prepackaged sandwiches as well, but not in cute train boxes.
Party guests were given as treats along the ride, as well able to take home, custom topped candy tubes filled with coordinating chocolate candies. I hand filled and made and decorated each candy tube with train themed toppers that included his initial, and were displayed perfectly in a plastic bucket that was adorned with his B.
Our train loving guests where given their very own wooden train whistles to continue the party celebration at home.
The birthday boy loved looking out the window watching everything around him as the train whooshed through the city. What an amazing experience.
He loved eating his cupcakes that were made just for him! They were topped with his favorite train and embellished with a 4! Plus, he rocked the custom shirt I made for him!
This was one of my most favorite parties I have ever given him and I am so happy I was able to provide it for him. He loved every bit of it and still talks about it to this day!!!
We are thrilled that our Train Themed Birthday Party was featured in print in the May 2013 issue DallasChild Magazine as well as online! What an honor! Click HERE to read the whole article.
